# How to edit user attributes

User attributes are useful for monitoring and evaluation purposes as they allow us to look at usage on Bero broken down by factors like gender, country or region, level of education, job type or role, and where the user works.

So, for example, by analysing user attributes we could learn that a version of Bero was being used 5 times as often by men than by women. That would allow us to ask ‘why?’ and to look into possible barriers that could be stopping women from accessing and/or the app as often.

**To edit a user attribute,** select **'user attributes'** from the left sidebar menu, select the attribute you want to edit, select **'add \[type of attribute]'** add a **'name'** for the option, and select **'save'.** Here’s an example of adding a type for gender:

**Note:** You enter details about a user’s attributes when you create a user for the first time, and can edit them if they change over time, for example, if a user changes their type of job (*see* [*How to create users*](/bero/user-groups-users-and-user-attributes/how-to-create-users.md)*)*.
