How to create courses

Courses exist either as part of a set in a course category or on their own.

To add a new course to a course category, go to the ‘Learn’ page and select the category you want to add to, then select ‘add course’ which will be where the ‘add child page’ button usually is.

To add a new course when there are no course categories, go to the ‘Learn’ page - where the categories would otherwise be stored - select ‘add child page’, and then select the ‘course’ type.

Once you’ve created a page for courses, fill in the fields that exist in each of the following tabs:

Content tab

In the content tab, add a title, an image (which will be used as the icon for the course and as the image on the course detail page), a short description of what’s involved in the course and an (optional) longer description.

Exam tab

In the exam tab, make sure you choose between whether you want to create a learning survey or an exam. You can only choose one type. Generally, learning surveys are used for the welcome lesson and sometimes for a revision lesson at the end, and all lessons in between use exams.

Generally, we recommend the exam pass score should be 75%, but this can be customised if need be. Surveys, unlike exams, do not require that the user receives a minimum score to pass and complete the course.

To add test questions, you need to select either a ‘quiz - choose one’ or ‘quiz - choose multiple’ element depending on whether you want there to be one or multiple correct answers.

Moving courses into categories

To move a pre-existing course to a new course category, go to the page of the course, select the ‘more’ dropdown menu, select ‘move’, and then choose the parent page you would like to move the course to. The process is the same for moving lessons into different courses.
