1. Learn

Prepare, Discover and Empathise - Designing meaningful and innovative products begins with understanding peoples’ pains, needs, goals and behaviours.

1.1 Prepare

This phase will point you in the right direction by framing the problem you are trying to solve. Sometimes the objective will be pre-defined by a tender (or proposal). Other times we may find a problem (or a market need) that we aim to solve with a new product.

1.2 Discovery

Next, you’ll engage and learn with your users. You will get to know the individuals that will be using our product, and learn about the context they will be using it. You’ll learn about their challenges and problems.

1.3 Empathise

Now that you have collected plenty of information about the users and the context where the product will operate, it is time for you and the team to build empathy with your users. Understanding the pains, needs and challenges of these individuals and their context is key to building empathy. Developing a deep understanding of users and their environment will help you and the team make decisions and find solutions.
